Gateway Mural Art Project
The Urban Renewal Agency of the City of Talent (TURA) partnered with the Phoenix-Talent School District to develop a transitional housing site to assist the families displaced by the Almeda Fire in September of 2020. In the Phoenix-Talent School District, families of 696 students lost their homes from the Almeda fire.
TURA partnered with Talent Maker City (TMC) as part of their summer art program to accept mural design submissions from local youth artists. Submissions selected for the project worked with TMC to transfer and paint their mural designs onto 4 x 6 marine board panels provided by TURA.
After completion, the panels were installed on the perimeter of the Gateway site late summer and fall of 2021. Now the Gateway transitional housing site, hosting 53 residential trailers is surrounded by community created art to welcome residents home.
